Rayat Shikshan Sanstha,Satara is one of the leading educational institutions in Asia. It has, from the very beginning, its emphasis is on the education of the down-trodden, the poor and the ignorant who really form the major bulk of society. To impart liberal and vocational education, from pre-primary to university level is the mission of the Sanstha.
The founder of the institution, Late Padmabhushan Dr. Karmveer Bhaurao Patil, was a man of the masses. He devoted all his life to the cause of education. Wayback in 1919,Anna founded Rayat Shikshan Sanstha in Satyashodhak Parishad by opening a Boarding House at Kale ,near Karad, in Satara district . He believed that education alone could correct the social ills such as caste-hierarchy, illiteracy, superstitions. He tried his best to establish social and economic equality. Throughout his life, he tried to translate this belief into reality
To-day, the sanstha has been conducting 42 Colleges, 7 Training colleges, 438 Secondary schools, 51 Primary schools including 19 English- Medium Schools). It also conducts 33 Pre-primary schools, 91 Cosmopolitan hostels, 8 Ashramshalas, and one Research Institute. This unique institution is working devotedly in about 15 districts of Maharashtra and one district in Karnataka.
Total number of employees is 13553.The total number students receiving education is 4, 58,044. The above figures speak of the phenomenal progress and achievement of the Sanstha as dreamt by the Karmveer.
The Sanstha received number Awards and honours for its valuable contribution to society especially to the field of education .Prominent among the honours are -Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Award by Government. of India(1994). In the present era of globalization and liberalization, there is a need to reconsider the present education at all its levels. These two concepts have changed all the concerns and references. It is necessary to shift the focus from the traditional methods. For imparting education, use the innovative methods and modern technology becomes almost necessary. In view of this, the Rayat Shikshan Sanstha has actively started the process of adjusting with new emerging global trends.
Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil (1887-1959) founded the Rayat Shikshan Sanstha in 1919 at the village Kale in Satara district.Mahatma Phule and Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj were role models before him.Realizing the need of spread of education for the masse,,he started schools and hostels in villages.
Hostels, training colleges, voluntary primary schools, secondary schools and finally colleges at Taluka places. His work proceeded in that order answering the needs of the lower strata of society .He had his own vision and educational philosophy which comprised education for all, regardless of his her financial status.
Education through self was his magic mantra which revolutionized the rural Maharashtra. The students earned education through manual labour which was special feature of the Rayat Shikshan Sanstha. Life together with students of different religious orientations automatically eradicated distinctions and helped create a sense of solidarity between them. Karmaveer created many selfless workers, many of whom assumed responsibilities as Life Works.
The Sanstha was, till date, is run by the employees who are essentially its office bearers. The academic wing ‘Karmveer Vidhya Prabodhini’ takes care of the quality improvement of students through its innovative projects and programmes. Hundreds of students drawn from economically backward and socially downtrodden .Section could win laurels and work in responsible positions only because of the Sanstha. Padmabhushan Karmaveer Dr. Bhaurao, affectionately called Anna, became a much loved and respected icon in the galaxy of social workers of Maharashtra.
The Rayat Shikshan Sanstha with its glorious track record will be celebrating its hundred years of existence in 2019.The Sanstha has announced and undertaken various projects keeping in view the contemporary scenario of education by insisting on technological revolution fostering the knowledge society to keep pace with changing times.
Rayat Shikshan Sanstha is an Indian educational organisation founded by Padmbhushan Dr. Karmveer Bhaurao Patil in 1919. Its aim was to provide education to students who, due to caste, religion of economic status, had not previously had the opportunity. It established Abasaheb Marathe Arts and New Commerce, Science College, Rajapur in 1994 with ‘Education to socioeconomically deprived classes’ as its mission has emerged as an institution with a difference and is prepared to ceaselessly strive for education for socially deprived class, being a multifaculty college is affiliated to Mumbai University. The Mumbai University honoured us with ‘Best College’ award in 2014.
The college was established in 1994 with the aim to provide an education to the students of remote area. The total area of college is 35 acre in the Western Ghats of India. The college runs UG programmes such as B.A., B. Sc., B. Com and M.Com and various courses according to the goal and mission of the Sanstha. The various courses rightly facilitate the need of students. The college also runs remarkable extension activities.
